Josh and his crew showed up promptly and gave great consideration to our home guarding the floors. He gave proper expectations of how the job would go. Days later there is a notable difference in our heat being maintained in the coldest weather of the year. My only regret is that I didn't connect with Emperor Insulation 5 years ago when my wife and I bought our home. Strongly recommend!

Jason was very prompt. Here 10 minutes early. He was polite and professional. Spent time doing his job. He was very thorough. I'd highly recommend Emperor to anyone needing insulation work.

Jacob, the sales associate that I originally met was polite, sincere and explained things quite well. The installation team was on time, very respectful, clean, explained everything they were doing in detail and took pictures during each stage of work. I am very impressed and happy with the work they did. We look forward to having a well insulated house.

Kamren and ISM team are great to work with. They have done all of the insulation of my home during an addition project that included wall and attic insulation and crawl space encapsulation! They did an amazing job! Always on time! Great price!! My heating bills have dropped dramatically!! I would highly recommend this company.

Nicole Hall★★★★★10 months ago

Kamren and his crew are top notch! They did an excellent job spraying foaming my basement! Kamren came out gave us some suggestions on what would work best for our application and he explained everything that he would be doing. He provided a detailed quote and got us on his schedule quickly. We felt very confident with Kamren and ISM and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I would highly recommend ISM to anyone looking for an honest, high quality insulation contractor. We look forward to doing more business with them in the future!

I've used ISM 2 different times. Absolutely best contractor I've ever experienced! First of all, Kamren is a very good and decent young man. Was a little apprehensive about him being young, but his wisdom and experience is beyond his age. He noticed a flaw in attic that occurred when house was built (1972) and corrected it. Second, if a problem does arise, which a slight one did on one of my jobs, Kamren will take care of it. Also, I live 1 1/2 hours away and within a few days of call. he drove over to address issue. He takes pride in his work and won't "ghost" you like some other contractors do, ie: they've received money, and won't follow up if problems occur. Will use ISM in the future.

I rarely leave reviews, but my experience with Insulation Man absolutely deserves one. I cannot recommend this company enough. The results have been incredible — the difference in my attic is significant — but what truly stands out is their exceptional customer service. The team went above and beyond to make sure we were completely satisfied with the job. They’re clearly experts in their field, but just as importantly, they take real pride in their work and in ensuring their customers are happy. Truly top-notch company.

If you are looking for an honest, professional, fair priced, caring company to assist you in insulating your home, look no further - Insulation Man truly meets those requirements! We discovered our home we purchased six years ago, built in '07, was not properly "enveloped" nor insulated as it should've been. Jerry was thorough but didn't try to sell us more than what was needed (trust me we had 3 other companies come out). We are a full day into job completion and WOW what a difference in temperature and no more drafts! THANK YOU Jerry & Team for a fabulous job, keeping us informed through out the day and caring about cleaning up when job was finished. Janet & Tom (sorry no photos - I forgot to take them!!)

They knew exactly what the cause of our issue was. They gave a detailed explanation of the work that would be done, gave a fair price for the work to be done and executed everything professionally and completely. The project ended up needing a little more work than expected, but they completed the job without any extra cost to us. Thanks to the folks at Insulation Man for a great job installing closed cell spray foam in our porch cantilever!!

Clean out space and remove debris under home and added foam insulation in crawlspace under house and outside doors to crawlspace replaced. Workers showed up on time and got to work. They were professional and kept me informed with each step they performed. I would highly recommend using this service. With the cold weather already here, I can feel the difference in how my furnace in running.

Truck A1 with Chandler and Mike were great. They arrived on time, removed the siding, injected the foam insulation and put everything back as originally found. The basement foam insulation was well done, too The process took about 2 hours. I really appreciated their professionalism. I highly recommend USA Insulation.

We had our exterior walls insulated. They did a great job except for a few clean up things i found after they left. If not for that it would be 5 stars. Tim, our sales guy was knowledgeable and not pushy at all. It was almost a year from our initially appointment and he did not hound us and gave us the time we needed. Overall great experience.

The building inspector just said, "Oh, Spink, they're the best. They do great work." He's right. We've used them several times with great results. They're also polite, punctual, easy to reach, responsive...

Excellent service at reasonable prices. We had several quotes to insulate our new build home and they had the best price. They were timely and efficient. Will use them again for future construction projects with my remodeling business!

Alex Gidley★★★★★7 years ago

After a kitchen remodel on our ~1950s home, we found ice forming on the tops of some of our recessed lighting cans in the attic during winter, meaning we did not have good insulation and air flow in our attic. We had both Home Depot and Spink come out and quote us on adding insulation and fixing air flow problems (installing baffles, clearing insulation from soffit vents). Both quotes were almost dead-on pricewise (within $10), but Spink's quote included more insulation, getting us to minimum R50 in our attic, whereas HD was less. Additionally, Spink was able to schedule the job within a week, whereas HD was booking 2+ weeks out. Finally, Spink also offered to do and submit the paperwork for DTE rebates, which is a nice bonus. The installers arrived and got right to the job. Joe got into our attic, poked around for a few minutes, and immediately explained everything, in intricate detail, to my wife and I. What they were going to do, the air flow issues they noted, how much insulation they were going to add, etc... They put down drop cloths to protect our newly-refinished hardwood floors, and they were careful to get the worst of snow/salt off their boots when coming inside (it was actively snowing outside). Within about 2 hours, they had completed the job and cleaned up. Again, Joe went through all the details of what they had done, and made sure we were happy. I took a peek up in the attic, and we ultimately ended up with close to 18" of insulation, which is even above R50 (R50 is about 15.5"). We were very happy with Spink, and would definitely recommend them for any insulation job in the Ann Arbor area.

Frequently Asked Questions — Spray Foam Insulation in Southfield

These are the questions Southfield homeowners ask most about spray foam cost, R-value, and open- vs. closed-cell foam — with context for local pricing and roughly 37% typical energy savings. Compare the 7 verified Southfield contractors above for exact quotes.

Why is spray foam insulation especially important in cold climates like Southfield?▼
In cold climates like Southfield, MI, proper insulation is critical to preventing heat loss, ice dams, and frozen pipes. Spray foam's air-sealing properties stop the cold air infiltration that traditional insulation cannot address. It also prevents the moisture buildup inside walls that leads to mold in cold-weather freeze-thaw cycles. Homeowners in MI typically save 25–35% on heating costs. Note: in tightly sealed homes, proper mechanical ventilation is commonly recommended to maintain fresh air exchange without losing the heat you've paid for.
Does spray foam insulation prevent ice dams in Southfield?▼
Yes — spray foam insulation is one of the most effective solutions for preventing ice dams in cold climates like Southfield, MI. Ice dams form when heat escapes through a poorly insulated attic, melting snow that refreezes at the eaves. By creating an air-tight thermal barrier in the attic, spray foam eliminates the heat loss that causes ice dams in the first place.
What R-value do I need for spray foam insulation in Southfield?▼
For cold climates like Southfield, MI, the Department of Energy recommends attic insulation of R-49 to R-60. Closed-cell spray foam provides R-6 to R-7 per inch, meaning 8–10 inches achieves code-minimum performance. Open-cell foam at R-3.5 per inch requires greater thickness. A local contractor familiar with MI building codes can recommend the exact specification for your home.
Is spray foam insulation worth the cost?▼
For most homeowners, yes. Spray foam creates an air-tight seal that traditional insulation cannot match, reducing energy bills by 15–35% annually. It also adds structural rigidity, acts as a moisture and vapor barrier, reduces outside noise, and can increase home resale value. The higher upfront cost compared to fiberglass is typically recovered within 3–7 years. One important note: because spray foam creates a very tight building envelope, proper mechanical ventilation is important to maintain healthy indoor air quality and prevent interior moisture buildup. This is typically handled by an Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) — a system that brings fresh outside air in while pushing stale air out, recovering the energy from the outgoing air so you don't waste what you paid to heat or cool — or a Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV), which works similarly but is optimized for cold climates. A qualified contractor will assess whether your home needs ventilation upgrades as part of the installation.
How much does spray foam insulation cost in Southfield, MI?▼
In Southfield, MI and the surrounding area, spray foam insulation typically costs $1.00–$3.00 per square foot installed, depending on the type and your home's specifics. Open-cell foam runs $0.44–$0.65 per board foot, while closed-cell foam costs $1.00–$2.00 per board foot. A typical 2,000 sq ft home attic in Southfield costs $2,000–$6,000. Most Southfield homeowners recoup this investment within 3–7 years through energy savings of 15–35% annually.
What is the difference between open-cell and closed-cell spray foam?▼
Open-cell spray foam is softer, less dense, and less expensive. It expands significantly and is ideal for interior walls, attics, and soundproofing. Closed-cell spray foam is denser, stronger, and provides a moisture barrier — making it better for exterior applications, crawl spaces, and areas prone to flooding or humidity. Closed-cell also has a higher R-value per inch (R-6 to R-7 vs R-3.5 to R-4 for open-cell). One key difference: open-cell foam allows some vapor movement, while closed-cell acts as a vapor barrier — an important consideration for your home's ventilation needs.
How long does spray foam insulation last?▼
Spray foam insulation is one of the most durable insulation options available, with a lifespan of 80+ years when properly installed. Unlike fiberglass batting which can sag and settle over time, spray foam maintains its shape and insulating properties indefinitely. It will typically outlast the building it is installed in.
How do I find a qualified spray foam insulation contractor in Southfield, MI?▼
When searching for a spray foam contractor in Southfield, MI, look for ones who are licensed, insured, and have verifiable reviews. Spray foam requires specialized equipment and training — improper installation can cause off-gassing, adhesion failure, or fire hazards. Ask for references, verify their insurance, and get at least 2–3 quotes. A qualified Southfield contractor will also assess your home's ventilation needs — a tightly sealed spray foam installation requires adequate mechanical ventilation to prevent moisture and indoor air quality issues. FoamMatch pre-screens all listed contractors in Southfield for licensing and insurance so you can compare verified professionals in your area.
How long does spray foam installation take?▼
Most residential spray foam jobs take 1–2 days depending on the size of the area. A standard attic takes 4–8 hours. After spraying, the foam cures within 24 hours, though most contractors recommend waiting 24–72 hours before occupying the space due to off-gassing during the curing process.
Does spray foam insulation need to be replaced?▼
No — spray foam insulation does not need to be replaced under normal circumstances. Unlike fiberglass insulation which degrades over time, spray foam maintains its R-value and air sealing properties for the life of the building. The only reasons to remove or replace spray foam are water damage, renovation work, or improper original installation.
