I hired Proficient Insulation to apply spray foam to the ceiling of a shipping container to stop condensation raining inside. Excellent communication and quick to answer questions. Mario arrived on time and was very professional. He worked efficiently and left everything clean and neat with no overspray. The container had 3 roll-up doors that roll up close to the ceiling. Mario was able to apply insulation in the tight space above them without getting it too thick where it would interfere with the doors opening. I'm very pleased with the result and happy with the price too.

I own GF Construction, in Bellingham. Mario and crew are excellent. I had a small, older home with around 12" of crawl space. Mario and crew hand dug, and hauled out the soil to get to 18" crawl. They set 6 mil vapor barrier, and perfectly insulated the floor. They also vacuumed the old insulation in the attic and blew new to proper R value. They do great work at very competitive pricing. I highly recommend Mario and Proficient Insulation for all of your insulation and crawlspace needs.

From start to finish, Mario and his crew nailed it. First, cost was absolutely fair. Second, Mario was super knowledgeable regarding our needs and permit requirements and was able to solve all of the special needs our building had, like a spray foam ceiling. Third, they are fast! We would hire Mario and Proficient Insulation again in a heartbeat and definitely will for any future projects. This was probably the most painless of the many steps involved in our project.

These guys are legit! They showed up on time as scheduled, worked very quickly but the work still looked high quality. The bid did not change one penny. My crawlspace was very skinny in some spots and they finished it perfectly to every corner. They were efficient, professional, clean, fast and competitive. I would definitely recommend Insulation Co for your job.

The crawl space to my property had not been addressed in more than 20 years. While having my crawl space inspected, the inspector stated he noticed rat feces and the vapor barrier not fully intact. I reached out to this insulation company and not sure what to expect. The team arrived as scheduled and immediately began to work. Four employees worked in my crawlspace nonstop. They were all business from start to finish and very much organized. Complete professionals in completing the task. Hi would definitely hire this company again to complete Like work. Oh, the price for completing the work was fair.

We recently hired Jo and his team to complete insulation work in our attic, and the experience was exceptional. They quickly identified several issues: including rodents, mold, and roof leaks and guided us through the entire remediation process. Jo also helped us find reliable subcontractors, ensuring the work was completed thoroughly and on time. They treated the mold, added cellulose insulation to the attic, submitted the PSE rebate and delivered high-quality results at the most competitive price among all the bids we received. Jo and his team were professional, responsive, and a pleasure to work with. Thank you for everything, the attic looks great now.

Look no further if you’re trying to find the highest quality insulation company in Whatcom county. We had a rodent issue and the old insulation under our home had been installed with wire stays, which we learned aren’t very reliable. Over time, between the old rusting stays and rodent activity, the insulation had fallen out all over our crawl space. I’d started trying to rehang the insulation myself, but soon realized it was too soiled and damaged. Plus, our 1920’s home has a shallow, non-standard crawl space, so it was just not a one-person affair. I decided to call some companies for estimates. We started with foundation “specialists”, because our crawl space is non-standard due to the house age and construction. Several companies made it clear they weren’t interested in this small of a job, our house being under 900 square foot. One large company’s estimator (with advertising that says they have specialists and engineers for any problem) told me he’d get back to me with an array of options, but instead ghosted us. We started calling insulation companies. The first larger company we had out, said they’d do the work once the space was certified, which wasn’t going to happen given foundation repair outfits wouldn't respond. Another larger local insulation company told us we should just close the space up as best we could, rodent soiled with useless insulation hanging, and forget about it. Fortunately, I’d made an appointment with the Insulation Company for an estimate. Christian came out, looked the space over and told me they could clean out and re-insulate our crawl space. I was astounded and relieved that someone could finally help us with our situation. Christian was kind, exceedingly professional and followed through with a written estimate in short order. He specifically told me it was his goal to provide solutions for his customers and not just walk away from a difficult problem. The price for the work was competitive and affordable. We couldn’t schedule them soon enough. Not only could the Insulation Company help us, but they sent out an incredible crew, Dani and James, their insulation specialists. Dani and James were exceedingly professional, clean and competent. They communicated about the scope of work, then started with quickly and efficiently clearing the old insulation and vapor barrier, thoroughly cleaning up after themselves as they went. The new materials were installed with care and concern for our older non-standard 1920’s home. Even when they discovered the joist spans were odd sizes in areas, they adapted materials to work in the space. There’s just no one else we’ll call going forward for insulation or pest issues. We’re grateful for their professionalism, hard work, affordability, and most of all for putting our crawl space to rights. Thank you all so very much!

Coast Insulation insulated my garage roof on Orcas Island using a combination of closed cell spray foam and fiberglass batts. When I asked them to touch up a few areas of the foam, they did so willingly and at no additional cost. They did excellent work and I would happily hire them again. I‘ll definitely recommend them to others.

had such a great experience with this company from start to finish. Katie, the woman in the office, was so friendly, clear, and easy to work with. She explained everything upfront, communicated so well, and honestly made me feel comfortable booking with them in the first place. Then Bryan J came out to look at my attic, and he was just as amazing. He was professional, honest, and genuinely cared about what was best for my home — not just trying to sell me something. It truly felt like working with a company that looks out for you and treats you with respect. As a homeowner, feeling safe and taken care of means a lot, and this team absolutely delivered. The whole process was seamless, and I can honestly say this is the best company I’ve ever worked with. Highly recommend!

Frequently Asked Questions — Spray Foam Insulation in Bellingham

How much can spray foam insulation save on heating and cooling bills in Bellingham?
Homeowners in mixed climates like Bellingham, WA typically see 20–30% reductions in total energy costs after spray foam installation. The savings come from both reduced heating in winter and reduced cooling in summer. The exact savings depend on your home's current insulation, size, and local energy rates, but most homeowners recoup the investment within 3–6 years.
Is spray foam better than fiberglass insulation for homes in Bellingham?
For most homes in Bellingham, WA, spray foam outperforms fiberglass significantly. Fiberglass batts insulate but do not air seal — meaning conditioned air still escapes through gaps. Spray foam both insulates and creates an airtight seal, addressing the root cause of energy loss. While spray foam costs more upfront, the performance difference in mixed climates makes it the better long-term investment for most homeowners.
Is spray foam insulation worth the cost?
For most homeowners, yes. Spray foam creates an air-tight seal that traditional insulation cannot match, reducing energy bills by 15–35% annually. It also adds structural rigidity, acts as a moisture and vapor barrier, reduces outside noise, and can increase home resale value. The higher upfront cost compared to fiberglass is typically recovered within 3–7 years. One important note: because spray foam creates a very tight building envelope, proper mechanical ventilation is important to maintain healthy indoor air quality and prevent interior moisture buildup. This is typically handled by an Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) — a system that brings fresh outside air in while pushing stale air out, recovering the energy from the outgoing air so you don't waste what you paid to heat or cool — or a Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV), which works similarly but is optimized for cold climates. A qualified contractor will assess whether your home needs ventilation upgrades as part of the installation.
How much does spray foam insulation cost?
Spray foam insulation typically costs $1.00–$3.00 per square foot installed, depending on the type and your location. Open-cell foam runs $0.44–$0.65 per board foot, while closed-cell foam costs $1.00–$2.00 per board foot. A typical 2,000 sq ft home attic costs $2,000–$6,000. Most homeowners recoup this investment within 3–7 years through energy savings of 15–35% annually.
What is the difference between open-cell and closed-cell spray foam?
Open-cell spray foam is softer, less dense, and less expensive. It expands significantly and is ideal for interior walls, attics, and soundproofing. Closed-cell spray foam is denser, stronger, and provides a moisture barrier — making it better for exterior applications, crawl spaces, and areas prone to flooding or humidity. Closed-cell also has a higher R-value per inch (R-6 to R-7 vs R-3.5 to R-4 for open-cell). One key difference: open-cell foam allows some vapor movement, while closed-cell acts as a vapor barrier — an important consideration for your home's ventilation needs.
How long does spray foam insulation last?
Spray foam insulation is one of the most durable insulation options available, with a lifespan of 80+ years when properly installed. Unlike fiberglass batting which can sag and settle over time, spray foam maintains its shape and insulating properties indefinitely. It will typically outlast the building it is installed in.
How do I find a qualified spray foam insulation contractor?
Look for contractors who are licensed, insured, and have verifiable reviews. Spray foam requires specialized equipment and training — improper installation can cause off-gassing, adhesion failure, or fire hazards. Ask for references, verify their insurance, and get at least 2–3 quotes. A qualified contractor will also assess your home's ventilation needs — a tightly sealed spray foam installation requires adequate mechanical ventilation to prevent moisture and indoor air quality issues. FoamMatch pre-screens all listed contractors for licensing and insurance so you can compare verified professionals in your area.
How long does spray foam installation take?
Most residential spray foam jobs take 1–2 days depending on the size of the area. A standard attic takes 4–8 hours. After spraying, the foam cures within 24 hours, though most contractors recommend waiting 24–72 hours before occupying the space due to off-gassing during the curing process.
Does spray foam insulation need to be replaced?
No — spray foam insulation does not need to be replaced under normal circumstances. Unlike fiberglass insulation which degrades over time, spray foam maintains its R-value and air sealing properties for the life of the building. The only reasons to remove or replace spray foam are water damage, renovation work, or improper original installation.
