The crew, Kevin & Alex did a fantastic and clean job! Christina took the time to understand my needs and worked with me throughout the whole process to ensure I was happy with their services. The owner, Aaron even came out to meet us and chat for a while. long story short...I had to have my attic insulation fully removed, then have new insulation blown in after replacing my falling ceilings. They went above and beyond to accommodate my needs in regard to scheduling. The cost was well worth the investment because now my home is up to modern standards. They submitted my info for a Duke Energy rebate and even sold me on the benefits of installing a solar powered attic fan. Overall, I was really impressed with their service from start to finish and DEFINTELY RECCOMMEND THEM!!

Joe Hampel★★★★★a week ago

Had groundhog come out and fill up our attic insulation due to it being low after finding them through a duke energy program. They were easy to talk to and explain all the things to be done, and what would or wouldn't qualify for the program through duke. They came out quickly to give an estimate and the work was done quickly and cleanly within a week of accepting the estimate. Can already notice the difference in efficiency in our home. Overall great experience.

Kevin and his crew did a great job, showed up on time and cleaned up well. I'm very pleased with the job they did!

From estimate to installation- Green Planet was professional and provided exceptional service! The estimate and explanation of services from Lee was thorough and the company prides themselves on following up-to-date building codes. They re-insulated our attic and installed an attic tent and even assisted us with getting a great rebate through Duke Energy. The owner, Chris, was very communicative and his workers were respectful of our property. Not only was the service great, our house has been so much warmer! We highly recommend Green Planet for your insulation needs!

Everyone from start to finish was great, friendly, and easy to work with! On top of that, they were honest as well! I had originally contracted them to install 2 vents to the outside from the 2 existing bathroom fans (in addition to the blown insulation), but after Greg and Travon (the installers) got in the attic for a closer look, they advised me that one was already vented and didn't need to be done. They could have easily not said a word and I would never have known the difference! They did a great job, explained exactly what they were going to do and showed me their work when they were done. Best of all they are part of the Duke Energy rebate program, they do the legwork then I get a gift card for $250!! 10/10, would hire again!! Thanks guys!

I met with Steve, who is very down to earth and shoots you straight, and he estimated blown-in insulation for my house and under floor insulation for my crawl space. He scheduled the installation and a VERY professional crew came out and did the work. They were very thorough and we have seen an instant difference in the comfort of our home. I would highly recommend Steve and IBBI!

PLEASE do not work with Leo or this company. He is a crook. He took our deposit, begged for money up front, showed us a sample of 3.5 inch foam and sprayed half an inch. Left the job site and never returned. When we called he came up with excuses such as “I’m out of town and will call you Wednesday”-never did or “my son was in a car accident, I’ll call you next week”-never did. He then stopped answering our calls altogether. He has now stopped answering our calls altogether. We have built two homes and worked with over 12 contractors. I can not imagine a worse experience. This is my first time ever writing a review (positive or negative) but feel the need to warn the public about this person and experience. We are attempting to go to court but he won’t reply with his federal tax ID # or correct attorney name. This company is a complete garage.

Frequently Asked Questions — Spray Foam Insulation in Winston-Salem

These are the questions Winston-Salem homeowners ask most about spray foam cost, R-value, and open- vs. closed-cell foam — with context for local pricing and roughly 33% typical energy savings. Compare the 7 verified Winston-Salem contractors above for exact quotes.

Is spray foam insulation a good investment in Winston-Salem?
For homes in mixed-humid climates like Winston-Salem, NC, spray foam is typically an excellent investment. The combination of hot summers, cold winters, and significant humidity means your home faces insulation challenges year-round. Spray foam addresses all three — providing thermal insulation in both seasons while controlling moisture infiltration. Most homeowners in NC see payback periods of 4–7 years. As with any tight building envelope, ensure your home has adequate mechanical ventilation to manage interior moisture.
How does humidity affect spray foam insulation performance in Winston-Salem?
In mixed-humid climates like Winston-Salem, NC, moisture management is as important as thermal performance. Closed-cell spray foam acts as a Class II vapor retarder, preventing moisture from infiltrating walls and attics where it causes mold and structural damage. This dual function — insulation plus moisture control — is why spray foam outperforms traditional insulation options in NC's climate. However, because the building envelope becomes tightly sealed, proper mechanical ventilation is strongly recommended to allow interior moisture from daily activities to escape without losing conditioned air.
Is spray foam insulation worth the cost?
For most homeowners, yes. Spray foam creates an air-tight seal that traditional insulation cannot match, reducing energy bills by 15–35% annually. It also adds structural rigidity, acts as a moisture and vapor barrier, reduces outside noise, and can increase home resale value. The higher upfront cost compared to fiberglass is typically recovered within 3–7 years. One important note: because spray foam creates a very tight building envelope, proper mechanical ventilation is important to maintain healthy indoor air quality and prevent interior moisture buildup. This is typically handled by an Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) — a system that brings fresh outside air in while pushing stale air out, recovering the energy from the outgoing air so you don't waste what you paid to heat or cool — or a Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV), which works similarly but is optimized for cold climates. A qualified contractor will assess whether your home needs ventilation upgrades as part of the installation.
How much does spray foam insulation cost in Winston-Salem, NC?
In Winston-Salem, NC and the surrounding area, spray foam insulation typically costs $1.00–$3.00 per square foot installed, depending on the type and your home's specifics. Open-cell foam runs $0.44–$0.65 per board foot, while closed-cell foam costs $1.00–$2.00 per board foot. A typical 2,000 sq ft home attic in Winston-Salem costs $2,000–$6,000. Most Winston-Salem homeowners recoup this investment within 3–7 years through energy savings of 15–35% annually.
What is the difference between open-cell and closed-cell spray foam?
Open-cell spray foam is softer, less dense, and less expensive. It expands significantly and is ideal for interior walls, attics, and soundproofing. Closed-cell spray foam is denser, stronger, and provides a moisture barrier — making it better for exterior applications, crawl spaces, and areas prone to flooding or humidity. Closed-cell also has a higher R-value per inch (R-6 to R-7 vs R-3.5 to R-4 for open-cell). One key difference: open-cell foam allows some vapor movement, while closed-cell acts as a vapor barrier — an important consideration for your home's ventilation needs.
How long does spray foam insulation last?
Spray foam insulation is one of the most durable insulation options available, with a lifespan of 80+ years when properly installed. Unlike fiberglass batting which can sag and settle over time, spray foam maintains its shape and insulating properties indefinitely. It will typically outlast the building it is installed in.
How do I find a qualified spray foam insulation contractor in Winston-Salem, NC?
When searching for a spray foam contractor in Winston-Salem, NC, look for ones who are licensed, insured, and have verifiable reviews. Spray foam requires specialized equipment and training — improper installation can cause off-gassing, adhesion failure, or fire hazards. Ask for references, verify their insurance, and get at least 2–3 quotes. A qualified Winston-Salem contractor will also assess your home's ventilation needs — a tightly sealed spray foam installation requires adequate mechanical ventilation to prevent moisture and indoor air quality issues. FoamMatch pre-screens all listed contractors in Winston-Salem for licensing and insurance so you can compare verified professionals in your area.
How long does spray foam installation take?
Most residential spray foam jobs take 1–2 days depending on the size of the area. A standard attic takes 4–8 hours. After spraying, the foam cures within 24 hours, though most contractors recommend waiting 24–72 hours before occupying the space due to off-gassing during the curing process.
Does spray foam insulation need to be replaced?
No — spray foam insulation does not need to be replaced under normal circumstances. Unlike fiberglass insulation which degrades over time, spray foam maintains its R-value and air sealing properties for the life of the building. The only reasons to remove or replace spray foam are water damage, renovation work, or improper original installation.
