On Wednesday Axel walked me through the whole process a couple of times. He immediately won my confidence and I signed up to get the job done by Rywen. I could not wait for the work to start. The team of workers arrived Monday morning as per agreement - they displayed nothing but professionalism as they prepped the house with paper walkway and plastic tunnel leading to the ceiling opening. Like clockwork the old insulation was sucked out and new insulation laid down piece by piece and secured. In the unfinished basement, where rat infestation was evident, all the junk piled up over more than three decades was removed and hauled away. The foundation and walls cracks were sealed to keep mice and rats from entering the premises. The kitchen was thoroughly inspected for cracks in the walls and cabinetry. Where necessary, cracks were treated with the application of sealant and or with wire mash. I am confident I made the right decision to go with Rywen. I highly recommend them.

Rywen Insulation is an excellent company! Every step of the way was thoroughly explained and completed in a professional manner. Axel did the initial inspection, Walter led his team with the job of replacing insulation, disinfecting and rodent proofing and Roni was super helpful with an electrical issue I had. Everyone at the company was pleasant, knowledgeable and patient with my questions. I highly recommend them!

I was very happy with Rywen’s customer service, communication, and attention to quality. I was especially impressed with their suggestions, for example, ensuring we got the desired thickness of insulation in the attic, overall, plus providing my desired amount of future access. To me, it felt like the company has a consistent attitude of going over and above and that’s rare. Thanks!

So glad that we finally had the attic insulated. The gentlemen were very knowledgeable and worked like clockwork to clear the debris from a previous roofing job. The clean up was thorough and only took a few hours. So far I can feel the difference as there aren’t any drafts. We will see how our utility bills look over the winter and how warm the house feels now that the weather is getting colder. We have a PSEG weather assessment scheduled. Look forward to their feedback as well.

Before hiring Atticare, I spoke with three other companies, and none of them felt as organized or knowledgeable. Sean the technician was great, and walked me through every step of the process and answered all my questions without rushing me. The price was fair, transparent, and exactly what was promised — no surprises. The rodent work was done professionally and the team clearly knew what they were doing. I’m very happy I went with Atticare and my Rat issue is definitely resolved!

Atticare upgraded my insulation and cleaned my air ducts. The difference in air quality is noticeable. My allergies improved and the airflow around the house feels stronger. Five stars for their professionalism specially, to the technician, Sean.

Frequently Asked Questions — Spray Foam Insulation in San Leandro

These are the questions San Leandro homeowners ask most about spray foam cost, R-value, and open- vs. closed-cell foam — with context for local pricing and roughly 35% typical energy savings. Compare the 2 verified San Leandro contractors above for exact quotes.

How much can spray foam insulation save on heating and cooling bills in San Leandro?
Homeowners in mixed climates like San Leandro, CA typically see 20–30% reductions in total energy costs after spray foam installation. The savings come from both reduced heating in winter and reduced cooling in summer. The exact savings depend on your home's current insulation, size, and local energy rates, but most homeowners recoup the investment within 3–6 years.
Is spray foam better than fiberglass insulation for homes in San Leandro?
For most homes in San Leandro, CA, spray foam outperforms fiberglass significantly. Fiberglass batts insulate but do not air seal — meaning conditioned air still escapes through gaps. Spray foam both insulates and creates an airtight seal, addressing the root cause of energy loss. While spray foam costs more upfront, the performance difference in mixed climates makes it the better long-term investment for most homeowners.
Is spray foam insulation worth the cost?
For most homeowners, yes. Spray foam creates an air-tight seal that traditional insulation cannot match, reducing energy bills by 15–35% annually. It also adds structural rigidity, acts as a moisture and vapor barrier, reduces outside noise, and can increase home resale value. The higher upfront cost compared to fiberglass is typically recovered within 3–7 years. One important note: because spray foam creates a very tight building envelope, proper mechanical ventilation is important to maintain healthy indoor air quality and prevent interior moisture buildup. This is typically handled by an Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) — a system that brings fresh outside air in while pushing stale air out, recovering the energy from the outgoing air so you don't waste what you paid to heat or cool — or a Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV), which works similarly but is optimized for cold climates. A qualified contractor will assess whether your home needs ventilation upgrades as part of the installation.
How much does spray foam insulation cost in San Leandro, CA?
In San Leandro, CA and the surrounding area, spray foam insulation typically costs $1.00–$3.00 per square foot installed, depending on the type and your home's specifics. Open-cell foam runs $0.44–$0.65 per board foot, while closed-cell foam costs $1.00–$2.00 per board foot. A typical 2,000 sq ft home attic in San Leandro costs $2,000–$6,000. Most San Leandro homeowners recoup this investment within 3–7 years through energy savings of 15–35% annually.
What is the difference between open-cell and closed-cell spray foam?
Open-cell spray foam is softer, less dense, and less expensive. It expands significantly and is ideal for interior walls, attics, and soundproofing. Closed-cell spray foam is denser, stronger, and provides a moisture barrier — making it better for exterior applications, crawl spaces, and areas prone to flooding or humidity. Closed-cell also has a higher R-value per inch (R-6 to R-7 vs R-3.5 to R-4 for open-cell). One key difference: open-cell foam allows some vapor movement, while closed-cell acts as a vapor barrier — an important consideration for your home's ventilation needs.
How long does spray foam insulation last?
Spray foam insulation is one of the most durable insulation options available, with a lifespan of 80+ years when properly installed. Unlike fiberglass batting which can sag and settle over time, spray foam maintains its shape and insulating properties indefinitely. It will typically outlast the building it is installed in.
How do I find a qualified spray foam insulation contractor in San Leandro, CA?
When searching for a spray foam contractor in San Leandro, CA, look for ones who are licensed, insured, and have verifiable reviews. Spray foam requires specialized equipment and training — improper installation can cause off-gassing, adhesion failure, or fire hazards. Ask for references, verify their insurance, and get at least 2–3 quotes. A qualified San Leandro contractor will also assess your home's ventilation needs — a tightly sealed spray foam installation requires adequate mechanical ventilation to prevent moisture and indoor air quality issues. FoamMatch pre-screens all listed contractors in San Leandro for licensing and insurance so you can compare verified professionals in your area.
How long does spray foam installation take?
Most residential spray foam jobs take 1–2 days depending on the size of the area. A standard attic takes 4–8 hours. After spraying, the foam cures within 24 hours, though most contractors recommend waiting 24–72 hours before occupying the space due to off-gassing during the curing process.
Does spray foam insulation need to be replaced?
No — spray foam insulation does not need to be replaced under normal circumstances. Unlike fiberglass insulation which degrades over time, spray foam maintains its R-value and air sealing properties for the life of the building. The only reasons to remove or replace spray foam are water damage, renovation work, or improper original installation.
