The Fifth Fuel of VA was recommended to us by our neighbor. They did not disappoint. The crew took care to cover all the surfaces in the living room and moved the plants and items in their path. They did a great job insulating the attic and insulating the access doors. They also insulated the crawlspace under the house. The crew was extremely polite and courteous. They took care to clean up after they finished their work. I would highly recommend them.

I had a great experience having Fifth Fuel insulate an addition and the attic in my home. Josh was very professional, responsive, and helpful. I thought they had reasonable prices for the quality of work provided. I had spray foam, batting, and blown foam installed. The only challenge was the day they booked the work, the installation team said that the truck for the spray foam was having an issue. They had to come back another day to do that work, but they were communicative and helpful to address the issue and reschedule. Overall I would recommend Fifth Fuel and am happy that my home is better insulated. I've already felt the comfort benefits over this cold winter and look forward to the same in the summer.

Excellent experience working with them! Will came to do our estimate and was incredibly professional. The process for getting on the schedule was seamless, and the workers showed up on time and did a really amazing job. The pricing was incredibly fair given the extensive work they did. We are definitely going to use them again if we have any further insulation needs!

We needed spray on foam insulation to encapsulate our crawl space. Southland came highly recommended by a trusted friend. Southland scheduled us and came out at the specified time and went right to work. The two men were very professional, conscientious, and took care not to damage the yard or landscaping with their long hose around the house. Their equipment is state of the art. When they finished, they cleaned everything up as if they were never there. A couple of weeks later, we noticed a small spot behind some duct work in the cellar that had been missed. We called Southern and they came right back out and took care of in no time. We are extremely happy with their work and now I too can highly recommend them!!!

I needed insulation for my new house. Contacted several companies. Southland Insulators were the most professional in terms of response, options of insulation & final recommendation. The whole process was done smoothly as agreed upon. Afterwards I needed a follow-up for specific areas like around main door entrance the response was as prompt and professional as before. Thank you Southland Insulators I really couldn't be any happier for a job well done.

Southland Insulators / Fifth Fuel encapsulated my large crawl space and they did an outstanding job and their price was great also! The crew was outstanding! They first removed all of the old insulation and other debris in the crawl space. Then they put foam board along the exterior crawl space walls and a heavy liner on the floor sealing any cracks etc. with spray foam. They were very neat. Removing all trash and minimizing any small trash from blowing (it was windy the day they removed the old insulation). I highly recommend this company.

Frequently Asked Questions — Spray Foam Insulation in Manassas

Below are common questions Manassas, VA homeowners ask about spray foam insulation cost, types, and installation. For local pricing and to compare verified contractors in Manassas, browse the listings above.

Is spray foam insulation a good investment in Manassas?
For homes in mixed-humid climates like Manassas, VA, spray foam is typically an excellent investment. The combination of hot summers, cold winters, and significant humidity means your home faces insulation challenges year-round. Spray foam addresses all three — providing thermal insulation in both seasons while controlling moisture infiltration. Most homeowners in VA see payback periods of 4–7 years. As with any tight building envelope, ensure your home has adequate mechanical ventilation to manage interior moisture.
How does humidity affect spray foam insulation performance in Manassas?
In mixed-humid climates like Manassas, VA, moisture management is as important as thermal performance. Closed-cell spray foam acts as a Class II vapor retarder, preventing moisture from infiltrating walls and attics where it causes mold and structural damage. This dual function — insulation plus moisture control — is why spray foam outperforms traditional insulation options in VA's climate. However, because the building envelope becomes tightly sealed, proper mechanical ventilation is strongly recommended to allow interior moisture from daily activities to escape without losing conditioned air.
Is spray foam insulation worth the cost?
For most homeowners, yes. Spray foam creates an air-tight seal that traditional insulation cannot match, reducing energy bills by 15–35% annually. It also adds structural rigidity, acts as a moisture and vapor barrier, reduces outside noise, and can increase home resale value. The higher upfront cost compared to fiberglass is typically recovered within 3–7 years. One important note: because spray foam creates a very tight building envelope, proper mechanical ventilation is important to maintain healthy indoor air quality and prevent interior moisture buildup. This is typically handled by an Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) — a system that brings fresh outside air in while pushing stale air out, recovering the energy from the outgoing air so you don't waste what you paid to heat or cool — or a Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV), which works similarly but is optimized for cold climates. A qualified contractor will assess whether your home needs ventilation upgrades as part of the installation.
How much does spray foam insulation cost in Manassas, VA?
In Manassas, VA and the surrounding area, spray foam insulation typically costs $1.00–$3.00 per square foot installed, depending on the type and your home's specifics. Open-cell foam runs $0.44–$0.65 per board foot, while closed-cell foam costs $1.00–$2.00 per board foot. A typical 2,000 sq ft home attic in Manassas costs $2,000–$6,000. Most Manassas homeowners recoup this investment within 3–7 years through energy savings of 15–35% annually.
What is the difference between open-cell and closed-cell spray foam?
Open-cell spray foam is softer, less dense, and less expensive. It expands significantly and is ideal for interior walls, attics, and soundproofing. Closed-cell spray foam is denser, stronger, and provides a moisture barrier — making it better for exterior applications, crawl spaces, and areas prone to flooding or humidity. Closed-cell also has a higher R-value per inch (R-6 to R-7 vs R-3.5 to R-4 for open-cell). One key difference: open-cell foam allows some vapor movement, while closed-cell acts as a vapor barrier — an important consideration for your home's ventilation needs.
How long does spray foam insulation last?
Spray foam insulation is one of the most durable insulation options available, with a lifespan of 80+ years when properly installed. Unlike fiberglass batting which can sag and settle over time, spray foam maintains its shape and insulating properties indefinitely. It will typically outlast the building it is installed in.
How do I find a qualified spray foam insulation contractor in Manassas, VA?
When searching for a spray foam contractor in Manassas, VA, look for ones who are licensed, insured, and have verifiable reviews. Spray foam requires specialized equipment and training — improper installation can cause off-gassing, adhesion failure, or fire hazards. Ask for references, verify their insurance, and get at least 2–3 quotes. A qualified Manassas contractor will also assess your home's ventilation needs — a tightly sealed spray foam installation requires adequate mechanical ventilation to prevent moisture and indoor air quality issues. FoamMatch pre-screens all listed contractors in Manassas for licensing and insurance so you can compare verified professionals in your area.
How long does spray foam installation take?
Most residential spray foam jobs take 1–2 days depending on the size of the area. A standard attic takes 4–8 hours. After spraying, the foam cures within 24 hours, though most contractors recommend waiting 24–72 hours before occupying the space due to off-gassing during the curing process.
Does spray foam insulation need to be replaced?
No — spray foam insulation does not need to be replaced under normal circumstances. Unlike fiberglass insulation which degrades over time, spray foam maintains its R-value and air sealing properties for the life of the building. The only reasons to remove or replace spray foam are water damage, renovation work, or improper original installation.
