I have been doing business with Star Insulation for over five years and I’m always more than satisfied with their quality of work. Star insulation is my go-to company when I need insukators.

Jason Byrne★★★★★2 years ago

I am ecstatic with the work done at my home by Star Insulation. I had gutted a 12x12 addition in my home back to the studs and found virtually no insulation anywhere. Star came out and gave me an estimate on Closed Cell Spray Foam Insulation and got me a price quickly and even was willing to work that price down to match a competitor I had quote the same work. Their scheduling process was quick and simple and even better yet, one of their foremen came back the following morning to make sure things were good and was happy to spot spray a couple areas that were a bit thinner than the rest near my windows and door framing. Room feels like a completely different space temperature and air wise. I am already planning to give them a call when I am ready to redo my finished basement. Thank you to the Star Team that helped us on our project.

Insul-Kings came out And evaluated my home for insulation. They helped enroll us into Mass Save program Which paid for 100% of the work for my 2 family home. The entire process took about a month, but they were able to get the work done in a few days. Have turning your head on we have definitely noticed a difference in our home. I highly recommend this company

Insul-Kings is wonderful to work with. They called in the morning to narrow the arrival time, which is very considerate. Nate and his crew arrived on time and CRANKED like a well oiled machine. I have a 4' crawl space. You can barely crouch. No problem! That's why God invented knee pads. They foamed and installed the insulation like it was their own home. It was a work of art. and came out better than I imagined. They patiently indulged my "old man" inquisitiveness. The crew represented Insul-Kings very well. I highly recommend them

We highly recommend Insul- Kings. We had an issue WITH ANOTHER COMPANY who installed our closed cell insulation in our attic. Chaz went above and beyond to answer a myriad of questions about the issues we had. He was kind, caring and knowledgeable. He provided critical safety information regarding the rework that the other company did not. We only wish we had hired Insul-Kings for the original installation.

I’d put off fixing a hole in our kitchen ceiling for months, assuming it would be a multi-day hassle with furniture to move and dust everywhere. I finally found Marcio and Flavio, and wow, what a great experience. They were responsive, insured, and incredibly easy to work with. I asked for quotes on Wednesday, signed on Friday, and by Monday night the job was done — plastered, painted, spotless, and perfect. No mess, no stress, just efficient, high-quality work. Highly recommend them for anyone looking for fast, professional results.

Absolutely amazing clean work. Had dozens of holes on my exterior walls and they made them disappear. Didn’t have to repaint the entire wall and matched multiple different colors to make it look like the wall wasn’t even touched. Would absolutely recommend

This is the third project Master Plastering has done for us. Fast, efficient, fairly-priced work. Reliable, on-time. Good clean-up. Professional communications. We would not hesitate to hire them again for plastering and paint work.

Frequently Asked Questions — Spray Foam Insulation in Lowell

These are the questions Lowell homeowners ask most about spray foam cost, R-value, and open- vs. closed-cell foam — with context for local pricing and roughly 35% typical energy savings. Compare the 3 verified Lowell contractors above for exact quotes.

How much can spray foam insulation save on heating and cooling bills in Lowell?
Homeowners in mixed climates like Lowell, MA typically see 20–30% reductions in total energy costs after spray foam installation. The savings come from both reduced heating in winter and reduced cooling in summer. The exact savings depend on your home's current insulation, size, and local energy rates, but most homeowners recoup the investment within 3–6 years.
Is spray foam better than fiberglass insulation for homes in Lowell?
For most homes in Lowell, MA, spray foam outperforms fiberglass significantly. Fiberglass batts insulate but do not air seal — meaning conditioned air still escapes through gaps. Spray foam both insulates and creates an airtight seal, addressing the root cause of energy loss. While spray foam costs more upfront, the performance difference in mixed climates makes it the better long-term investment for most homeowners.
Is spray foam insulation worth the cost?
For most homeowners, yes. Spray foam creates an air-tight seal that traditional insulation cannot match, reducing energy bills by 15–35% annually. It also adds structural rigidity, acts as a moisture and vapor barrier, reduces outside noise, and can increase home resale value. The higher upfront cost compared to fiberglass is typically recovered within 3–7 years. One important note: because spray foam creates a very tight building envelope, proper mechanical ventilation is important to maintain healthy indoor air quality and prevent interior moisture buildup. This is typically handled by an Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) — a system that brings fresh outside air in while pushing stale air out, recovering the energy from the outgoing air so you don't waste what you paid to heat or cool — or a Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV), which works similarly but is optimized for cold climates. A qualified contractor will assess whether your home needs ventilation upgrades as part of the installation.
How much does spray foam insulation cost in Lowell, MA?
In Lowell, MA and the surrounding area, spray foam insulation typically costs $1.00–$3.00 per square foot installed, depending on the type and your home's specifics. Open-cell foam runs $0.44–$0.65 per board foot, while closed-cell foam costs $1.00–$2.00 per board foot. A typical 2,000 sq ft home attic in Lowell costs $2,000–$6,000. Most Lowell homeowners recoup this investment within 3–7 years through energy savings of 15–35% annually.
What is the difference between open-cell and closed-cell spray foam?
Open-cell spray foam is softer, less dense, and less expensive. It expands significantly and is ideal for interior walls, attics, and soundproofing. Closed-cell spray foam is denser, stronger, and provides a moisture barrier — making it better for exterior applications, crawl spaces, and areas prone to flooding or humidity. Closed-cell also has a higher R-value per inch (R-6 to R-7 vs R-3.5 to R-4 for open-cell). One key difference: open-cell foam allows some vapor movement, while closed-cell acts as a vapor barrier — an important consideration for your home's ventilation needs.
How long does spray foam insulation last?
Spray foam insulation is one of the most durable insulation options available, with a lifespan of 80+ years when properly installed. Unlike fiberglass batting which can sag and settle over time, spray foam maintains its shape and insulating properties indefinitely. It will typically outlast the building it is installed in.
How do I find a qualified spray foam insulation contractor in Lowell, MA?
When searching for a spray foam contractor in Lowell, MA, look for ones who are licensed, insured, and have verifiable reviews. Spray foam requires specialized equipment and training — improper installation can cause off-gassing, adhesion failure, or fire hazards. Ask for references, verify their insurance, and get at least 2–3 quotes. A qualified Lowell contractor will also assess your home's ventilation needs — a tightly sealed spray foam installation requires adequate mechanical ventilation to prevent moisture and indoor air quality issues. FoamMatch pre-screens all listed contractors in Lowell for licensing and insurance so you can compare verified professionals in your area.
How long does spray foam installation take?
Most residential spray foam jobs take 1–2 days depending on the size of the area. A standard attic takes 4–8 hours. After spraying, the foam cures within 24 hours, though most contractors recommend waiting 24–72 hours before occupying the space due to off-gassing during the curing process.
Does spray foam insulation need to be replaced?
No — spray foam insulation does not need to be replaced under normal circumstances. Unlike fiberglass insulation which degrades over time, spray foam maintains its R-value and air sealing properties for the life of the building. The only reasons to remove or replace spray foam are water damage, renovation work, or improper original installation.
