I had an awesome experience with Paragon Insulation & Services. They were extremely professional and showed up right on time. The technician worked his butt off the entire day — super friendly, respectful, and clearly knows what he’s doing. He removed all of my old attic insulation, fully sealed and deodorized the space, and then refilled everything to the proper insulation levels. The difference is incredible. The price was very fair, and the quality of the work exceeded my expectations. I’m very satisfied with the service and would highly recommend them to anyone needing insulation work!

Randy was awesome! He came by to give me a quote for insulation, but when he realized I wouldn’t meet his minimum, he gave me suggestions on what to do instead. He was very honest and just a good overall guy. I would definitely recommend him for your insulation needs. Also, he runs a YouTube page which to me shows he is very passionate about his craft and wants to make sure everyone has proper insulation- even those who are too far away to use him!

Just used Paragon for closed cell spray foam and was happy with everything. Randy and the rest of paragon were very pleasant, setup nicely, cleaned up well, and when there was a slight overspray observed into the living space they sent someone out as soon as I reached out to remedy it. I plan to use Paragon again and would recommend them to anyone.

We just had our attic and crawl space insulated and a moisture barrier put in. The crew showed up on time and every one of them was polite and professional. We could tell they had a lot of experience working together because they were super organized. While the boss, Dave, walked us through the process in detail, making sure we understood the job, behind him the crew set up quickly and efficiently, treating our home with respect. They were finished right on time, too, and left our house looking as if they had never been there. Before they left, Dave showed us their work and explained how these improvements would make our home more energy efficient. Every crew member made sure to say goodbye to us. They were amazing people! We highly recommend Building Energy Experts.

These guys are the real deal folks. A few years back our newly purchased house had a mice problem. We were given quotes for sealing and doing some insulation that were so expensive. We did the sealing and held off on insulation until this winter when our heat distribution was terrible. Enter Ken and Tyler from building energy experts. I could tell from the moment they showed up how thorough they were. Ken explained things SO well and pointed out several weak points that were contributing to our issues. Anthony the owner followed up with a quote that was not only reasonable, they had gone through the trouble of taking off rebates that they knew would be covered by our gas company. This was certainly never mentioned by their other companies much less actually applied in a quote. Day of service the guys showed up early and were ready to go. Dave, Tito, Jason and Tyler were incredibly thorough and efficient and it was a bigger job once they got into our weird old house and realized the full scope of the project. Again they explained everything so well and truly went ABOVE AND BEYOND! We feel so grateful to have found this company!

I have been very busy, but wanted to make sure that I posted this review. I had this company do major work in my home several weeks ago under the supervision of "Ken" and they were wonderful. The insulation work they did in both my attic and crawl space was efficient and very professional. The crew of men that performed the work I found to be considerate and courteous. The clean up was complete. I highly recommend their business!

Frequently Asked Questions — Spray Foam Insulation in Crystal Lake

These are the questions Crystal Lake homeowners ask most about spray foam cost, R-value, and open- vs. closed-cell foam — with context for local pricing and roughly 35% typical energy savings. Compare the 3 verified Crystal Lake contractors above for exact quotes.

How much can spray foam insulation save on heating and cooling bills in Crystal Lake?
Homeowners in mixed climates like Crystal Lake, IL typically see 20–30% reductions in total energy costs after spray foam installation. The savings come from both reduced heating in winter and reduced cooling in summer. The exact savings depend on your home's current insulation, size, and local energy rates, but most homeowners recoup the investment within 3–6 years.
Is spray foam better than fiberglass insulation for homes in Crystal Lake?
For most homes in Crystal Lake, IL, spray foam outperforms fiberglass significantly. Fiberglass batts insulate but do not air seal — meaning conditioned air still escapes through gaps. Spray foam both insulates and creates an airtight seal, addressing the root cause of energy loss. While spray foam costs more upfront, the performance difference in mixed climates makes it the better long-term investment for most homeowners.
Is spray foam insulation worth the cost?
For most homeowners, yes. Spray foam creates an air-tight seal that traditional insulation cannot match, reducing energy bills by 15–35% annually. It also adds structural rigidity, acts as a moisture and vapor barrier, reduces outside noise, and can increase home resale value. The higher upfront cost compared to fiberglass is typically recovered within 3–7 years. One important note: because spray foam creates a very tight building envelope, proper mechanical ventilation is important to maintain healthy indoor air quality and prevent interior moisture buildup. This is typically handled by an Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) — a system that brings fresh outside air in while pushing stale air out, recovering the energy from the outgoing air so you don't waste what you paid to heat or cool — or a Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV), which works similarly but is optimized for cold climates. A qualified contractor will assess whether your home needs ventilation upgrades as part of the installation.
How much does spray foam insulation cost in Crystal Lake, IL?
In Crystal Lake, IL and the surrounding area, spray foam insulation typically costs $1.00–$3.00 per square foot installed, depending on the type and your home's specifics. Open-cell foam runs $0.44–$0.65 per board foot, while closed-cell foam costs $1.00–$2.00 per board foot. A typical 2,000 sq ft home attic in Crystal Lake costs $2,000–$6,000. Most Crystal Lake homeowners recoup this investment within 3–7 years through energy savings of 15–35% annually.
What is the difference between open-cell and closed-cell spray foam?
Open-cell spray foam is softer, less dense, and less expensive. It expands significantly and is ideal for interior walls, attics, and soundproofing. Closed-cell spray foam is denser, stronger, and provides a moisture barrier — making it better for exterior applications, crawl spaces, and areas prone to flooding or humidity. Closed-cell also has a higher R-value per inch (R-6 to R-7 vs R-3.5 to R-4 for open-cell). One key difference: open-cell foam allows some vapor movement, while closed-cell acts as a vapor barrier — an important consideration for your home's ventilation needs.
How long does spray foam insulation last?
Spray foam insulation is one of the most durable insulation options available, with a lifespan of 80+ years when properly installed. Unlike fiberglass batting which can sag and settle over time, spray foam maintains its shape and insulating properties indefinitely. It will typically outlast the building it is installed in.
How do I find a qualified spray foam insulation contractor in Crystal Lake, IL?
When searching for a spray foam contractor in Crystal Lake, IL, look for ones who are licensed, insured, and have verifiable reviews. Spray foam requires specialized equipment and training — improper installation can cause off-gassing, adhesion failure, or fire hazards. Ask for references, verify their insurance, and get at least 2–3 quotes. A qualified Crystal Lake contractor will also assess your home's ventilation needs — a tightly sealed spray foam installation requires adequate mechanical ventilation to prevent moisture and indoor air quality issues. FoamMatch pre-screens all listed contractors in Crystal Lake for licensing and insurance so you can compare verified professionals in your area.
How long does spray foam installation take?
Most residential spray foam jobs take 1–2 days depending on the size of the area. A standard attic takes 4–8 hours. After spraying, the foam cures within 24 hours, though most contractors recommend waiting 24–72 hours before occupying the space due to off-gassing during the curing process.
Does spray foam insulation need to be replaced?
No — spray foam insulation does not need to be replaced under normal circumstances. Unlike fiberglass insulation which degrades over time, spray foam maintains its R-value and air sealing properties for the life of the building. The only reasons to remove or replace spray foam are water damage, renovation work, or improper original installation.
