Lucas at Premier Moisture Control has been my go to inspection partner since 2022/2023. I can always count on Lucas to make himself available for my clients and their inspections. Time and time again, he has proven himself to be trustworthy, reliable honest and fair. In the world of real estate, partners like Lucas are invaluable. 10/10 would recommend him and his business to anyone and everyone in need of his service. You will not be disappointed

Premier Moisture Control recently (and promptly) came to my house for an inspection of my crawl space. I had recently moved to the Hampton Roads area and the concept of a crawl space was completely new to me. Although I did my fair share of Google searches and YouTube videos on the topic I felt it would be prudent to have a professional take a look under my home. Lucas came out and within an hour had a full assessment ready to share with me. I was very pleased and pleasantly surprised to be informed that my crawl space was in good condition and that any maintenance required at this point I could likely do myself. This was a very refreshing dose of honestly and integrity of which I unfortunately haven't always experienced with other vendors. With that being said because of the professionalism, patience, obvious expertise, and integrity when the time comes (and I'm sure it will) that I require expert moisture control I will start (and hopefully end) my search going with Premier Moisture Control!

I would definitely recommend this company for your insulation needs. Being a FireFighter and Veteran owned company gave it instant creditability for me being a retired LE Officer. They surveyed my needs and scheduled my repairs. The two men that came to do the work were, polite, respectful, informative, and all around quality workers. They came prepared to work and did! Then cleaned up the area better than it was to start. I would trust them to help you without hesitation. C. Jordan Police Chief Retired

I couldn’t be more pleased with the service I received from Robert and his team at We Crawl Spaces for encapsulating my crawlspace. The quality of work was top-notch – they take great pride in what they do. Crew lead/foreman Tristan led the install team. He was professional and respectful of my schedule. He kept me updated daily, and ensured that work was done in a way that would not interfere with my wife and I's work-from-home schedules. What really stood out to me was the owner Robert's personal involvement throughout the entire project. He explain every step and answered so many questions. He came by daily to ensure that work met his high standards. Robert was transparent. He identified things multiple prior (certified home) inspectors missed - or didn't bother to point out. Things that were little issues now, but would lead to bigger ones down the road. Instead of glossing over them to get to the next job, he informed me and advised me of options I had to ensure I got the most out of my investment. I really appreciate the care and attention to detail that went into this project, and I highly recommend We Crawl Spaces to anyone looking for any crawlspace and/or foundation services.

From start to finish, the professionals at Miller’s exceeded my expectations. Aaron Brunson met up with me initially to inspect my current setup and provided detailed steps on what to expect. He presented me with great options, and I felt like he was honest and transparent throughout our meeting. A week later, Everett Hutton and Philip Jordan got to my house on time and were enthusiastic to get it started. Everything was complete in less than 8 hours, and they cleaned up and explained everything to me. I feel like for what Miller’s provides, it’s definitely worth the investment. I highly recommend this company!

Everyone was very professional, very educated, explained everything to a tee, and even provided pictures. All pictures were even sent to me for my records. The process of getting a new unit (heating and cooling) was so smooth and easy, it was fantastic. They had no issues adding the coupon prices, we're very clear about what I needed for my home, and didn't try to upsell anything like salesmen usually do. When I had questions they had answers, when I asked for extra HEPA filters for severe allergies they were able to provide an addition to the system for minimal cost. The fact that I was not pushed into purchasing a system I did not need was a welcome change and one that made me trust them even more. The install was much smoother than expected, quick, and relatively painless. The whole unit replacement took one day, including bringing the entire unit up to code from the 1980s. Considering the people my home warranty sent just weeks prior, I cannot recommend Miller's enough! If I had known it was going to be this smooth and easy to get things fixed, I would have gone to them first. I talked to various people including contractors in other areas in order to make sure I use somebody reputable and not someone with inflated references, and I can honestly say I will never use anyone else for my heating and cooling system. Miller's has made me and my family lifelong customers! I cannot speak highly enough about all of the individuals that I had the pleasure of interacting with from the first review of my system to the final install. Thank you everyone.

J and Brice were excellent. They kept us informed throughout the process. Went the extra mile cleaning and wearing shoe covers when coming inside. Super professional installation. Showed me all the different components and explained what i am supposed to expect. Made sure all my questions were answered. GIVE THEM BOTH A RAISE.

Frequently Asked Questions — Spray Foam Insulation in Chesapeake

These are the questions Chesapeake homeowners ask most about spray foam cost, R-value, and open- vs. closed-cell foam — with context for local pricing and roughly 33% typical energy savings. Compare the 4 verified Chesapeake contractors above for exact quotes.

Is spray foam insulation a good investment in Chesapeake?
For homes in mixed-humid climates like Chesapeake, VA, spray foam is typically an excellent investment. The combination of hot summers, cold winters, and significant humidity means your home faces insulation challenges year-round. Spray foam addresses all three — providing thermal insulation in both seasons while controlling moisture infiltration. Most homeowners in VA see payback periods of 4–7 years. As with any tight building envelope, ensure your home has adequate mechanical ventilation to manage interior moisture.
How does humidity affect spray foam insulation performance in Chesapeake?
In mixed-humid climates like Chesapeake, VA, moisture management is as important as thermal performance. Closed-cell spray foam acts as a Class II vapor retarder, preventing moisture from infiltrating walls and attics where it causes mold and structural damage. This dual function — insulation plus moisture control — is why spray foam outperforms traditional insulation options in VA's climate. However, because the building envelope becomes tightly sealed, proper mechanical ventilation is strongly recommended to allow interior moisture from daily activities to escape without losing conditioned air.
Is spray foam insulation worth the cost?
For most homeowners, yes. Spray foam creates an air-tight seal that traditional insulation cannot match, reducing energy bills by 15–35% annually. It also adds structural rigidity, acts as a moisture and vapor barrier, reduces outside noise, and can increase home resale value. The higher upfront cost compared to fiberglass is typically recovered within 3–7 years. One important note: because spray foam creates a very tight building envelope, proper mechanical ventilation is important to maintain healthy indoor air quality and prevent interior moisture buildup. This is typically handled by an Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) — a system that brings fresh outside air in while pushing stale air out, recovering the energy from the outgoing air so you don't waste what you paid to heat or cool — or a Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV), which works similarly but is optimized for cold climates. A qualified contractor will assess whether your home needs ventilation upgrades as part of the installation.
How much does spray foam insulation cost in Chesapeake, VA?
In Chesapeake, VA and the surrounding area, spray foam insulation typically costs $1.00–$3.00 per square foot installed, depending on the type and your home's specifics. Open-cell foam runs $0.44–$0.65 per board foot, while closed-cell foam costs $1.00–$2.00 per board foot. A typical 2,000 sq ft home attic in Chesapeake costs $2,000–$6,000. Most Chesapeake homeowners recoup this investment within 3–7 years through energy savings of 15–35% annually.
What is the difference between open-cell and closed-cell spray foam?
Open-cell spray foam is softer, less dense, and less expensive. It expands significantly and is ideal for interior walls, attics, and soundproofing. Closed-cell spray foam is denser, stronger, and provides a moisture barrier — making it better for exterior applications, crawl spaces, and areas prone to flooding or humidity. Closed-cell also has a higher R-value per inch (R-6 to R-7 vs R-3.5 to R-4 for open-cell). One key difference: open-cell foam allows some vapor movement, while closed-cell acts as a vapor barrier — an important consideration for your home's ventilation needs.
How long does spray foam insulation last?
Spray foam insulation is one of the most durable insulation options available, with a lifespan of 80+ years when properly installed. Unlike fiberglass batting which can sag and settle over time, spray foam maintains its shape and insulating properties indefinitely. It will typically outlast the building it is installed in.
How do I find a qualified spray foam insulation contractor in Chesapeake, VA?
When searching for a spray foam contractor in Chesapeake, VA, look for ones who are licensed, insured, and have verifiable reviews. Spray foam requires specialized equipment and training — improper installation can cause off-gassing, adhesion failure, or fire hazards. Ask for references, verify their insurance, and get at least 2–3 quotes. A qualified Chesapeake contractor will also assess your home's ventilation needs — a tightly sealed spray foam installation requires adequate mechanical ventilation to prevent moisture and indoor air quality issues. FoamMatch pre-screens all listed contractors in Chesapeake for licensing and insurance so you can compare verified professionals in your area.
How long does spray foam installation take?
Most residential spray foam jobs take 1–2 days depending on the size of the area. A standard attic takes 4–8 hours. After spraying, the foam cures within 24 hours, though most contractors recommend waiting 24–72 hours before occupying the space due to off-gassing during the curing process.
Does spray foam insulation need to be replaced?
No — spray foam insulation does not need to be replaced under normal circumstances. Unlike fiberglass insulation which degrades over time, spray foam maintains its R-value and air sealing properties for the life of the building. The only reasons to remove or replace spray foam are water damage, renovation work, or improper original installation.
