John and the Trench Guys team are the best among contractors for this type of work in the middle GA area. My project was complex and introduced unexpected obstacles, unusual weather patterns, and plenty of reasons that most would have used to put the homeowner in a bad position (e.g. renegotiate or delay the plan)..... Not the Trench Guys! They showed up, were very knowledgeable, worked the problems, and genuinely cared about how I felt about the finished product. This attitude was apparent from the beginning. They came out to quote the job fairly and with a permanent solution in mind. After 3 other quotes, these were only guys looking to permanently "Fix" my foundation issue. And it continued through the end. These guys actually cared about providing a solution that would look great in my neighborhood and wouldn't be just a patchwork fix. I guess that's why they were the only ones willing to warranty their work. Either way, they executed to perfection. When you have a foundation, concrete, or crawlspace problem, these guys should be your first call. I'm proud to have them in my contacts for future work.

If you're looking to encapsulate your crawl space you should look no further than the Trench Guys. They were not the least expensive but provided the services that I needed to address my particular situation. I wanted to remove all the wet insulation and insulate the walls of the crawl space. I also wanted a 20mil lining not 10. I had gotten three quotes and narrowed down to two. I'm so glad we chose the Trench guys. They were on time and very professional. They did everything they said they would without me chasing them down. The crawl space is now at 50% relative humidity and a few degrees from the house temperature. There are no more mildew odors or moisture. The floor joist are dry and clean. They removed all the trash and insulation from the space. It looks amazing. I have included the before and after pics and video. Thank you Nathaniel for the awesome job!

The Thermal Shield Team did an excellent job from estimate to installation. They spray-foamed the upstairs bonus room and added spray in insulation to the rest of the attic space. Here are pics of the stud walls, spray-foam, and the finished space.

I cannot recommend Thermal Shield Insulation enough! I found them through the Georgia Power Home Energy Program. Ethan came to look at my house and I was so impressed with his professionalism, I asked him to look at my office as well. The communication is the best I've ever seen for any contractor in the home improvement business. I've fully renovated my house from top to bottom and my office building from top to bottom in the past five years. Ethan and his team are far and away the best I've experienced. It goes to show that it CAN be done a better way. When Alex and the team arrived on the planned day, first of all, they were ON TIME. But more importantly, they were professional, respectful of my space, and extremely thorough and detailed in their work. They insulated my office and air sealed the rest of the building. Then they came to my home and air sealed my cracks and ducts. It was a LONG, HOT day, but they never complained and did not leave until they were satisfied. I can say that they have very high standards. I expected to have to clean up after they left and I didn't have to do anything. They did it all! I can't wait to see the results of how my home and office feel, as well as hopefully a drop in my power bills. Hannah also filed the GA Power rebate for me...I didn't have to do that either!

Air Tight Spray Foam

Frequently Asked Questions — Spray Foam Insulation in Macon

Does spray foam insulation work well in hot dry climates like Macon?
Yes — spray foam is highly effective in hot dry climates like Macon, GA. While moisture control is less of a concern than in humid climates, the air sealing properties are critical for keeping hot desert air out and cooled air in. In extreme heat climates, an unsealed attic can reach 150°F+, dramatically increasing AC load. Spray foam in the attic can reduce attic temperatures by 30–40°F.
What is the best area of my home to insulate in Macon?
In hot dry climates like Macon, GA, the attic is typically the highest-impact area to spray foam insulate. Desert sun heats roofs to extreme temperatures, and an uninsulated attic transfers that heat directly into your living space. After the attic, crawl spaces and rim joists are the next highest-impact areas. A local contractor can perform an energy audit to identify where your home loses the most conditioned air.
Is spray foam insulation worth the cost?
For most homeowners, yes. Spray foam creates an air-tight seal that traditional insulation cannot match, reducing energy bills by 15–35% annually. It also adds structural rigidity, acts as a moisture and vapor barrier, reduces outside noise, and can increase home resale value. The higher upfront cost compared to fiberglass is typically recovered within 3–7 years. One important note: because spray foam creates a very tight building envelope, proper mechanical ventilation is important to maintain healthy indoor air quality and prevent interior moisture buildup. This is typically handled by an Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) — a system that brings fresh outside air in while pushing stale air out, recovering the energy from the outgoing air so you don't waste what you paid to heat or cool — or a Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV), which works similarly but is optimized for cold climates. A qualified contractor will assess whether your home needs ventilation upgrades as part of the installation.
How much does spray foam insulation cost?
Spray foam insulation typically costs $1.00–$3.00 per square foot installed, depending on the type and your location. Open-cell foam runs $0.44–$0.65 per board foot, while closed-cell foam costs $1.00–$2.00 per board foot. A typical 2,000 sq ft home attic costs $2,000–$6,000. Most homeowners recoup this investment within 3–7 years through energy savings of 15–35% annually.
What is the difference between open-cell and closed-cell spray foam?
Open-cell spray foam is softer, less dense, and less expensive. It expands significantly and is ideal for interior walls, attics, and soundproofing. Closed-cell spray foam is denser, stronger, and provides a moisture barrier — making it better for exterior applications, crawl spaces, and areas prone to flooding or humidity. Closed-cell also has a higher R-value per inch (R-6 to R-7 vs R-3.5 to R-4 for open-cell). One key difference: open-cell foam allows some vapor movement, while closed-cell acts as a vapor barrier — an important consideration for your home's ventilation needs.
How long does spray foam insulation last?
Spray foam insulation is one of the most durable insulation options available, with a lifespan of 80+ years when properly installed. Unlike fiberglass batting which can sag and settle over time, spray foam maintains its shape and insulating properties indefinitely. It will typically outlast the building it is installed in.
How do I find a qualified spray foam insulation contractor?
Look for contractors who are licensed, insured, and have verifiable reviews. Spray foam requires specialized equipment and training — improper installation can cause off-gassing, adhesion failure, or fire hazards. Ask for references, verify their insurance, and get at least 2–3 quotes. A qualified contractor will also assess your home's ventilation needs — a tightly sealed spray foam installation requires adequate mechanical ventilation to prevent moisture and indoor air quality issues. FoamMatch pre-screens all listed contractors for licensing and insurance so you can compare verified professionals in your area.
How long does spray foam installation take?
Most residential spray foam jobs take 1–2 days depending on the size of the area. A standard attic takes 4–8 hours. After spraying, the foam cures within 24 hours, though most contractors recommend waiting 24–72 hours before occupying the space due to off-gassing during the curing process.
Does spray foam insulation need to be replaced?
No — spray foam insulation does not need to be replaced under normal circumstances. Unlike fiberglass insulation which degrades over time, spray foam maintains its R-value and air sealing properties for the life of the building. The only reasons to remove or replace spray foam are water damage, renovation work, or improper original installation.
